Ivan Wise
Ivan comes from one of the oldest families in the parish and has lived here since 1951, being born in Hollybush Lane. He has been in the motor trade for most of his life and currently runs a family business with his son, JCMotorwise Ltd, which is located on the A4 Bath Road. Ivan is married to Julia and they have two children. Ivan joined the council in 2009.
Fiona Jones
Fiona moved to Ufton Nervet with her husband in 1999. After 28 years in the food industry she has recently started a business called Berkshire Lifestyle Concierge.
Fiona’s 2 boys attended local schools. She loves the countryside she lives in and would like to see it preserved for generations to come.
Sally Poole – Parish Clerk
Sally joined the Parish Council as their Clerk in May 2022, initially covering maternity leave, but now as the permanent clerk.
She has extensive experience of clerking school governing bodies and also worked for Committee Services at Reading Borough Council. She worked at The Willink School as the Extended Services Co-ordinator and then as the Library Manager. She lives locally and enjoys the abundance of rural walks with her Springer Spaniel.
Diane Woodward
Diane has lived in the parish of Sulhamstead since 1999 having moved here with her husband and 2 small children. Both of her children attended the local schools.
She has strived to be an active member of the community and, for 18 years, worked at the local secondary school, using her commercial computing expertise. Diane believes in the keeping of a “village” environment and although not adverse to housing, believes it needs to be affordable and in keeping with the area.
Michael joined the council in June 2025 and has lived in the Parish since 1999. having moved here with his wife and 2 small children, now adults. Both of his children attended the local schools, with one teaching there after graduating.

Liz Penston
Elizabeth moved to the parish in 1998 and her children attended local schools. She has played an active role in the community since moving here and is still an Explorer leader after many years service with Burghfield and Sulhamstead Scout Group. She loves taking walks in the surrounding countryside and is keen to see it maintained for future generations.
Tess Watson-Smith
Tess moved to the area in 1993 and has been involved with the parish as a member of St Mary’s PCC, parish magazine editor and former governor of SUN school.
Now semi retired from HR consultancy work, she is concerned that Sulhamstead moves with the times but preserves it’s rural nature.
Neil Williams
Neil joined the council in June 2025 and has lived in the Parish since 1993. Married with 2 children, Neil has been active within the local community as a cub scout leader, a cover teacher at the Willink and has also been a coach for one of the Reading Rockets youth basketball teams.

Ufton Nervet Parish Council
David Hannington – Chairman
David has lived in the parish since 1952 and has served on the council since 1985 becoming Chairman some 2 years later. David is a Parish Council Representative on the Ufton Nervet Fuel Allotment Charity.
David has three children.
David Brown – Vice Chairman
David is a Security Controller/Patroller at Reading University and has lived in the parish since 1990. David has served on the Council since 2001.
David and has two children and was a Parent/Governor until his youngest left, after which he took on the role as Parish Council Representative to SUN school.
Norman Bagshaw
After a daily commute to London Norman moved to Ufton Nervet upon retirement in 2006 to enjoy the rural nature of this village. Norman has served for a number of years as a governor at SUN School and as a Parish Councillor since 2015.
Norman believes that Ufton Nervet should be a great place to live whatever your age, and recognises the importance of bringing the community together through village activities.
Graham Jones
Graham joined the Council after having his interest piqued by his wife Fiona, the former Parish Clerk. Graham runs a company which manufactures CCTV cameras.
Graham has lived in the village since 2000 and is interested in preserving the rural nature of the Parish.
Kathy McDonald
After 36 years working for British Airways as a pilot Kathy recently retired. Kathy has lived in Ufton Nervet for 20 years, and together with her husband, enjoys the rural nature of the village. Kathy is keen to protect that rural nature for generations to come.

Mel joined Ufton Nervet Parish Council as Parish Clerk in July 2026, bringing over 24 years experience of working in local government.
